Taking a look at daily operations with a critical eye
and focusing on what you, as a company, do best has become imperative for
survival in the current economic climate. Westlake clearly subscribes to this
school of thought.
Westlake Plastics Company has determined that it can do many
things, but what is it that it does best? This is the key question the company
has been answering over the past year as evidenced by some of the changes you
have been seeing. Bringing new products and niche products to the market are
among some of the strengths of the company. To this end, Westlake has committed
significant resources to research, development and product training to help the
distribution market.
Technical Materials Training
Knowing that in the plastics industry it is much
easier to sell and recommend the products with which you are most familiar,
presents a challenge when selling products that are "not plain vanilla." To
address this issue, Westlake is introducing an integrated Technical Materials
Training program that coincides with new product introductions as well as
existing product promotions. People cannot be expected to sell what they do not
know or understand. Westlake believes product training is a direct factor in
driving sales. Whereas some companies cut training in periods of economic slow
downs as we are currently experiencing, Westlake feels it must not only
maintain, but increase its training efforts for both employees and
distributors. Then, as the economic climate continues to improve, the company
and its distributor network are better prepared to penetrate new markets with
its unique product mix.
Change Brings Progress
Charles F. Kettering once said, "The world hates
change, yet it is the only thing that has brought progress." With three
generations of experience and know how and the innate aspiration for
excellence, Westlake Plastics Company is continuing to
expand as a prominent global manufacturer of high performance thermoplastic
stock shapes and film.
