Impact resistance is a material’s ability to withstand intense force or shock applied to it over a short period of time. Westlake Plastics offer the following materials for applications requiring high impact resistance.
Absylux is Westlake Plastics’ family of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS). Absylux is an economical all-purpose engineering plastic exhibiting good dimensional stability, impact strength, and stiffness. Absylux is a popular choice for prototyping parts where low volumes and easy machining are required. Absylux can also be painted and is easy to bond with adhesives. Absylux is FDA Compliant in natural (beige) and black for food applications.
Absylux FR is Flame Retardant Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS). The material is economical all-purpose fire-retardant product exhibiting excellent dimensional stability, especially as compression molded (a proprietary Westlake Plastics Process). The material is UL 94V0 capable down to 0.625 in thick.
Ultra Ethylux High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) is one of the most widely utilized thermoplastics due to its relative low cost, weight/density, and range of properties. Although not recommended for high load, Westlake Plastics offers a normalized grade which enhances stress relief characteristics for applications requiring more extensive machining.
Ethylux Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is a semi crystalline polyolefin with a lower density and a higher degree of ductility than Ultra Ethylux/HDPE. Ethylux Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) has excellent chemical resistance and low moisture absorption properties. Ethylux Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is a good candidate for chemical environments, food processing and packaging applications.
Norylux modified Poly Phenylene Oxide (PPO) is a high strength amorphous engineering thermoplastic offers outstanding mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties along with low moisture absorption and low thermal expansion. Westlake Plastics extrudes and compression molds unfilled and flame-retardant products and compression molds glass reinforced and glass/mineral filled products.
Westlake’s Radel® WM stock shapes are made exclusively from Solvay’s Radel® polyphenylsulfone (PPSU). Its regulatory compliance profile, and lot traceability make it ideal for use in medical and life science applications. Sterilization methods include EtO gas, radiation, steam autoclaving, dry heat, and cold sterilization.
Zelux GS is extruded with polycarbonate resin designed for gamma and e-beam sterilization. Product exhibits excellent impact resistance and good strength and stiffness up to 120°C. The polycarbonate resin meets the requirements of USP VI and ISO 10993 biocompatibility standards. Suitable sterilization methods include gamma, e-beam, EtO, and limited cycle autoclaving. Extruded product is fully lot traceable.
Zelux W is a Window grade Polycarbonate (PC) that is optically clear with excellent dimensional stability, toughness, good strength, and stiffness with service temperatures up to 250°F. Zelux W is often used for structural applications when clarity and impact strength are essential including lenses, manifolds, sight glass, and machine guards.
