Our History

Westlake Plastics Company was founded by E. B. Westlake Jr., in 1951. Starting with just ten employees and only a fraction of the present-day plant space, we have experienced significant growth since our humble beginnings 70+ years ago. This growth is a testament to our material innovation and expertise, our collaborative spirit, and most importantly, our people and their commitment to excellence.

As a semi-finished thermoplastic product supplier, our job is to take polymer resins produced by raw material manufacturers and process them into film, slab, sheet, rod, and tubing. These products will then make their way through a variety of distribution channels or ship directly to fabricators and OEM’s where the semi-finished shapes are converted and fabricated into their final form. Our materials can be found in everything from aerospace components, industrial applications, semiconductor chips, essential medical products, and more.

Often, we are the first to extrude a new, difficult to process product. Our reputation frequently brings requests from resin suppliers for help in determining the processability of a new material. We were the first company to extrude Lexan (polycarbonate), Celcon (acetal), Polysulfone, Noryl (modified PPO), and Ultem (polyetherimide). In 1963 we produced the largest piece of thermoplastic ever extruded: a six-inch-thick slab of linear polyethylene, four feet wide and eight feet long. Through our experience and years of operation, we have developed many different proprietary methods of manufacturing thermoplastics and thermosets which gives us a significant competitive edge over other semi-finished thermoplastic shape manufacturers.

Today, Westlake Plastics has become synonymous with innovation in the world of semi-finished thermoplastics and continues to expand operations worldwide. Because of the dedication and skills of our employees, combined with a strong sense of pride in our ability to prove high quality and innovative products, Westlake Plastics Company has emerged as a successful, vibrant, forward-looking company to play a vital leadership role in industrial plastics and distribution.
