Lennite is Westlake Plastics’ family of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene products (UHMWPE). This semi-crystalline, opaque white thermoplastic is known for its excellent abrasion and wear resistance and low coefficient of friction (COF). While UHMW-PE has lower heat resistance and mechanical properties compared to semi-crystalline “engineering” grade thermoplastics (like polyamide, POM, and polyesters), it does offer broad chemical resistance, low moisture absorption, and toughness. Because of its high molecular weight, it is typically melt-processed via compression molding or ram extrusion into sheet and rod which can then be easily machined into complex shapes. Westlake Plastics ram extrudes Lennite specifically for use in long term orthopedic implant applications in accordance with ASTM specification F648 and International Standard ISO 5834-1.
