Engineering thermoplastics are a subset of the more commonly utilized commercial materials that have a broad scope of characteristics that include varying degrees of chemical resistance, dimensional stability, ability to withstand load and friction. These materials are generally defined for longer term usage at temperatures from ambient up to 250F.
Absylux is Westlake Plastics’ family of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS). Absylux is an economical all-purpose engineering plastic exhibiting good dimensional stability, impact strength, and stiffness. Absylux is a popular choice for prototyping parts where low volumes and easy machining are required. Absylux can also be painted and is easy to bond with adhesives. Absylux is FDA Compliant in natural (beige) and black for food applications.
Absylux CN-P is a conductive ABS (carbon powder filled). Surface Resistivity of 10^2–10^6 ohm/sq). Absylux CN-P is is easy to machine and fabricate. Absylux CN-P is an ideal material for structural applications when high impact, strength and stiffness are required. It can be easily thermoformed in thinner gauges and is bondable.
Absylux FR is Flame Retardant Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS). The material is economical all-purpose fire-retardant product exhibiting excellent dimensional stability, especially as compression molded (a proprietary Westlake Plastics Process). The material is UL 94V0 capable down to 0.625 in thick.
Absylux SD-A is a permanently anti-static Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) with Surface Resistivity of 10^9–10^11 ohm/sq). The material is a non-carbon filled product, available in both natural and black color. It is ideal for protection against static discharge in electronic applications where contamination from potential sloughing of carbon powder would be concern. Absylux SD-A is easy to machine and fabricate.
Stock shapes extruded from Ardel®resin are specifically formulated to endure the damaging effects of UV light. When exposed to UV light, the material undergoes a molecular change resulting in the formation of a protective layer that essentially serves as a UV stabilizer. This inherent UV stability combined with superior retention of optical and mechanical properties make polyarylate an ideal choice for any application where weathering effects could pose a problem.
Arolux Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic offering a combination of high-performance properties including high temperature resistance, very good wear & abrasion resistance, excellent dimensional stability and exceptional chemical resistance to organic acids, bases and good hydrolysis resistance in boiling water and steam.
Arolux Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS) is a high performance semi-crystalline thermoplastic with continuous service temperatures up to 240°C. It offers high surface hardness and rigidity, very good chemical and oxidation resistance, very low water absorption, and is inherently flame-resistant (UL 94: V-0). PPS is a popular choice for structural applications in demanding chemical environments at elevated temperatures.
Ethylux Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is a semi crystalline polyolefin with a lower density and a higher degree of ductility than Ultra Ethylux/HDPE. Ethylux Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) has excellent chemical resistance and low moisture absorption properties. Ethylux Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is a good candidate for chemical environments, food processing and packaging applications.
Norylux modified Poly Phenylene Oxide (PPO) is a high strength amorphous engineering thermoplastic offers outstanding mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties along with low moisture absorption and low thermal expansion. Westlake Plastics extrudes and compression molds unfilled and flame-retardant products and compression molds glass reinforced and glass/mineral filled products.
Pomalux Polyoxymethylene (POMC) is a high-performance acetal copolymer used for a wide range of applications. Pomalux has good chemical and high-temperature resistance. Pomalux has good wear resistance and low frictional characteristics. Pomalux a good candidate for a wide range of structural and mechanical components that carry or transmit loads in dry or wet environments.
Pomalux SD-A is non-carbon-filled, permanently antistatic acetal co-polymer, which is non-migratory and non-humidity dependent. Natural in color, this material offers enhanced lubricity, provides superior wear resistance, and ease of machining. Exhibiting low outgassing and non-sloughing characteristics, it is optimal for applications where carbon sloughing cannot be accepted.
Propylux CN-F is conductive polypropylene containing non-sloughing, carbon fiber with surface resisitivity of 102 – 106 ohms/sq. The product offers good chemical resistance, high strength and stiffness, and good temperature resistance to 250°F. This material is light weight, easily machined and fabricated.
Propylux SD-A is non-carbon-filled, permanently anti-static polypropylene (PP). Propylux SD-A exhibits extremely low out-gassing, is non-sloughing, and acceptable for use in clean room environments. In addition, it is light weight, weldable, easily machined, and available in natural, camel, and black colors.
Propylux VF is manufactured as a void-free polypropylene (PP) copolymer, having a wide range of usage from chemical resistant manifold applications to machined pump housings. Highly chemically resistant, all Propylux VF sheet and rod products are 100% ultrasonically tested and guaranteed to be free of voids or porosity.
Tempalux GF20 is a 20% glass reinforced amorphous Polyetherimide (PEI) polymer, which offers a combination of useful characteristics, including high dielectric strength, high strength at elevated temperatures, high modulus, and broad chemical resistance. Glass fiber reinforcement provides Tempalux GF20 with improved tensile strength, stiffness and improves dimensional stability.

Thermalux Polyethersulfone (PESU) An amber colored, semi-transparent, high performance engineering thermoplastic that combines good chemical resistance with a high heat deflection temperature (204°C / 399°F), making it a good fit for food service applications. This resin is also inherently flame retardant for use in electronic components and testing devices.
Thermalux Polyphenylsulfone (PPSU) is a high performance engineering thermoplastic that offers a superior combination of high performance properties that include excellent thermal stability (HDT of 207°C / 405°F), outstanding toughness, and good environmental stress cracking resistance.
TPX Polymethylpentene (PMP) is a crystalline thermoplastic offering a unique combination of a very low-density value (0.82 g/cc), permeability, heat resistance and releasability (very low surface tension). TPX has outstanding low-dielectric properties which makes it an excellent candidate for high-frequency applications. TPX is an excellent choice for items that require steam sterilization.
Ultra Ethylux High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) is one of the most widely utilized thermoplastics due to its relative low cost, weight/density, and range of properties. Although not recommended for high load, Westlake Plastics offers a normalized grade which enhances stress relief characteristics for applications requiring more extensive machining.
Zelux CN-P is a conductive Polycarbonate (PC) utilizing carbon powder with surface resistivity dry 105 – 107 ohm/sq.. Zelux CN-P has low outgassing properties, high flexural strength and good thermal stability to 270°F. CN-P is UL94 V-0 rated at 0.030″ and is thermoformable in thinner gauges (0.010" – 0.060") and is easily machined.
Zelux W is a Window grade Polycarbonate (PC) that is optically clear with excellent dimensional stability, toughness, good strength, and stiffness with service temperatures up to 250°F. Zelux W is often used for structural applications when clarity and impact strength are essential including lenses, manifolds, sight glass, and machine guards.
